“Infinite Ambient: Clouds” is the second in a series of albums featuring music from the Infinite Ambient® website (www.infiniteambient.com). The Infinite Ambient website and apps will be shutting down in January 2027, and I wanted to make the music on the site available here on Bandcamp, as one-hour albums available in CD quality.

“Clouds” was created in August of 2021, with the original purpose of being a song to capture the feel of clouds slowly moving across the late Summer sky.  I wanted something that would be easy to "get lost" in. While playing with the arrangement of “Clouds”, the thought occurred to me that it would be nice to have the Infinite Ambient engine available to feed the different parts into- but, the Infinite Ambient engine had been gone for about 18 months, after my old hosting service shut down, and my new hosting service couldn't support the code.

So, after hiring someone to code a new engine and create a new website, “Clouds” became the first “new” Infinite Ambient listening experience featured on the new website; the two previous experiences- “night” and “afternoon”- were featured on my main website (www.jeffpearcemusic.com) from 2014 to early 2020.

“Clouds”, as it exists on the Infinite Ambient website, consists of multiple short fragments of my Chapman Stick playing, while a random number generator determines the playback order. So when I created this album version of “Clouds”, I used the original WAV files from my August 2021 sessions, while the Infinite Ambient random number generator created the playback order.

And once I had “Infinite Ambient: Clouds” mixed and mastered as a 16 bit 44.1kHz WAV file, I loaded it into my phone, went deep into the woods, and spent an afternoon “cloud gazing”. Like the movement of clouds in the sky, the music shifts from light to dark to places in between- a little bit of “ambient impressionism” that was easy to get wonderfully lost in.
