"Skyward" is a collection of three ambient guitar pieces, recorded on April 21st and April 22nd, 2026, before, and during, the Lyrid meteor shower.
1) Rain This Morning- usually, in April, the rain is welcome in this part of the United States. However, it felt most UN-welcome the morning of April 21st, since I was looking very forward to possibly seeing the Lyrid meteor shower later that night. But, i decided to seek some inspiration from the rain (all the while hoping that it would clear out quickly), and the result was “Rain This Morning”.
The music itself was created with three loopers, all with different length of loops, and all with different ambient guitar parts. Because of these different length loops, the loops are never perfectly in sync with each other; there are moments where notes from all three loops play at the same time, forming a chord that won’t be repeated again, and there are other moments where the silence of all three loops happens at the same time, leaving some temporary space for the recorded rain environment in the background.
2) Luminous Evening- fortunately for me, the rain cleared up in the late afternoon, and the clouds were slowly clearing, which gave me hope for late night skywatching. This piece was composed at roughly 9 PM, while gazing at the first stars in that night’s sky- and hoping for more to appear in the same sky.
3) The Lyrids- I waited patiently, but knew, thanks to various stargazers online, that the Lyrids probably wouldn’t make their appearance until well after midnight. It wasn’t a problem- I had my guitar, I had my laptop, I had a comfortable chair and a great view of the sky. And around 3 AM- the Lyrid meteor shower appeared- and that’s when I started this improvisation.
