The Charity

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation was founded in 1982 by Nancy Goodman Brinker, in memory of her sister, who died from breast cancer in 1980.

Like so many people- too many people- when my wife and I look at our respective family trees, we see breast cancer; my grandmothers, her aunt, and her mother, who is a breast cancer survivor- a term which, only a few years ago, was a sad sort of oxymoron.  And since 1982, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation has invested nearly $2 billion dollars in breast cancer research, education, and support programs, becoming one of the organizations who have made the term "breast cancer survivor" a reality.

The Song

It's probably no secret, for people who know me, that autumn is quite possibly my favorite season (followed quite closely by winter, spring, and summer, although not necessarily in that order  :)).  "In the Season of Fading Light" was written at the very end of summer last year, when the days start to get shorter, and there's a noticeable, almost tangible, element of time passing (represented by the glissando guitar in this song).
